Deerfield Elementary PTA

Deerfield PTA welcomes and relies on the help of volunteers.  Whether you are a parent, grandparent, friend or alumni, we would love to see you!  Below is a list of committees that need volunteers.  If you would like to help out, please e-mail us at info@dfpta.com.

 

At Home Help - We sometimes need volunteers to stuff envelopes, assemble packets and do data entry.  If it's hard for you to get away from work or home, this is a great way to contribute.

 

Art Advocate – Duties:  Liaison between District Art Coordinator and PTA/School.  The Art Advocate is an important position because of the transfer of information from the district to school about current issues will be discussed.  Organize Reflections Art Program (Fall).  Time Commitment:  Unknown.

 

After School Enrichment (ACE) Coordinator (NEW) - Duties: Process class registrations for after school enrichment classes; periodic attendance at IPSF ACE meetings and course previews; update ACE software registrations. Arrange to have 1 or 2 adults when students arrive. Time Commitment: 5-10 hours at start of school year; 5 hours per month on-going.

 

Book Fair Volunteers - Duties:  Assist students with purchases at twice yearly book fairs.  Time Commitment:  1-2 hours. 

Box Top Drive - Duties:  Coordinate box top drive 2 times a year; promote, collect, count and submit box tops for remittance.  Great at-home work.  Time Commitment:  5-10 hours, twice a year.

Communications Chairperson (NEW) - Duties: Communicate upcoming events, notices, etc. to Deerfield families via email and/or school newsletter. Time Commitment: 1-2 hours a week.

Community Involvement Chairperson (NEW) - Duties: Coordinate 2 food donation drives annually; possibly organize additional charity programs dependent upon interest. Time Commitment: 5-10 hours.

 

Copy Room Volunteers - Assist Deerfield staff by working 1-2 hour shifts in the copy room, copying notices, homework, etc.

 

Family Night Committee - Work with chairperson to set-up and run Family Nights at Deerfield.  We hope to hold 3-4 such events this year.  Time Commitment: 2-10 hours

 

Guy Stuff Night Chair & Committee(6th grade boys) - Duties: Schedule annual fall health education event for 6th grade boys & their dads , including arranging for speaker. Gather items for goodie bags and prizes. Create committee to coordinate food, decorations, etc. 6th grade parent usually fills this job. Time Commitment- 10-12 hours for chair, including e-mails, phone calls; 2-3 hours for committee. 

 

Hoops Classic Chairperson (5th & 6th graders) – Duties: Arrange try outs and practices for city-wide basketball tournament in November.  Coordinate tournament play.  Time commitment: 3 + practices; tournament day. 

 

Harvest Cup Fall Soccer Tournament Chairperson (5th & 6th graders) - Duties: Arrange try outs and practices for city-wide basketball tournament in October.  Coordinate tournament play.  Time Commitment: 3 + practices; tournament day.

Hospitality - Duties: Assist with refreshments for large meetings and PTA events; act as a greeter at events. Time Commitment: varies, but minimal

 

IPSF Ambassador – Duties:  Liaison between the Irvine Public School Foundation and PTA/Principal.  Attend meetings with IPSF personnel and coordinate activities as required.  Time Commitment:  12 hours (6 meetings throughout the year), additional hours depending on activities.

 

Jog-a-Thon - Duties:  Assist in the planning of Deerfield's annual fitness and fundraising event.  Time Commitment: 30 hours. (Spring)

Legislative Action Representative - Duties: Attend monthly district meetings regarding legislative issues relevant to IUSD. Share information at monthly PTA meetings.  Coordinate letter and e-mail writing campaigns as necessary.  Time Commitment:  4-5 hours per month ongoing.

 

Library Assistance - Duties:  Assist Deerfield librarian by shelving books, checking in items, etc.  Time Commitment:  1-2 hours per week.

 

Marquee Coordinator - Duties: Works with front office to keep school marquee and bulletin board up-to-date. Time Commitment – 15-30 minutes per week.

 

Mother-Daughter Tea Committee (5th grade girls only) - Work with chairperson to plan menu and agend as well as gather decorations & giveaway items.  Time Commitment-2-3 hours in spring.

 

Open House Family Dinner Volunteers - Help set up and/or serve at our Open House Dinner in late May.  Time Commitment: 2-3 hours.

 

Red Ribbon Week  – Duties:  Organize week-long series of events in October for drug prevention awareness. Significant support is provided by IUSD for these programs.  Time Commitment: 15-20 hours in fall.

 

Reflections Art Program - Duties: Coordinate Deerfield student participation in annual PTA art recognition program held in fall. Time Commitment: 2-5 hours.

 

Talent Show - Duties: Assist in organizing school wide display of student talent event.  Time Commitment: 40 - 45 hours (Spring).

 

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week - Duties: Help organize a week-long series of events in May to show our gratitude to our hard working staff.  Time Commitment: 30 - 40 hours (Spring).

Yearbook Committee  - Duties: Assist in development of annual Deerfield yearbook.  Opportunities include taking pictures at school events.  Time Commitment:  varies/flexible.
